John Hudson is an experienced events organiser, notably in the field of literary events. He has previously organised literary festivals including the launch of Wigtown as Scotland's Book Town in 1998. He is currently Director of Literature at The Bakehouse poetry performance space where he organises upwards of twelve poetry readings per year.
John's experience in running writers' workshops goes back twenty years. He can offer workshops on poetic technique (rhythm, rhyme, form and structure), finding ideas for poems, editing and criticising poetry, analysing poetry, how to finish a poem, how to read a poem aloud, how to prepare and plan readings.
John is also editor of Markings magazine, one of Britain's foremost literary publications, and he can offer classes, courses or workshops on the art of magazine editing and production, including topics such as how to select material, how to plan the contents of a magazine, layout, magazine management, distribution and funding.
As a reader John has performed at many of the major theatres and festivals in Britain, France and the US. He is a founder member of the Solway Poets performance group and is considered to be a charismatic, engaging and entertaining performer. In 2003 he co-wrote an Arts Council lottery funded poem Collateral Damage which he has toured in Scotland and London.
John has also won awards and undertaken residencies as a writer and poet. In 1992 he undertook a travel bursary to Greece, in 1999 he was awarded an Arts Council bursary to write poetry, in 2007 he is undertaking residencies in France and Ireland where he will write and, alongside this, work with the local community and produce events for the public.
